How To Refinish Solid Wood Flooring

Solid wood flooring are made from one piece of hardwood timber and are one of the most popular kinds of floor. Solid wood floors are particularly secure, known to last over 100 years and therefore are likely to be the type of wooden floor you've got in your home.

Why would you want to recoat or decorate your hardwood flooring?

If your timber floors protective finish has worn off, it is far more cost effective and faster to refinish it than to replace it. This manual is meant to help you do yourself. But even if after reading this manual you choose to employ a professional hardwood refinish company, the cost will still be considerably less than replacement, so it's worth considering.

TOP TIP: Before you start, it's a good idea to give the floor a excellent hoover and a run over with a damp mop simply to check that refinishing is actually necessary.

A step-by-step guide to refinishing solid hardwood floors:

STEP 1: Sanding

A. employ a sander and be certain to have studied its security advice (you should be aware that floor sanders are heavy).
B. Remove all furniture and make sure your room is clear of obstacles.
C. Fit heavy grit sandpaper to the sander and start to function in the direction of the grain.
d. After complete, replicate but with lighter grit sandpaper, taking care to always work in the direction of the wood grain.

STEP 2: Staining -- this step is optional since it is possible to choose to either stain the floor or leave its normal shade.

I. Hoover the space to remove all of the dust and sawdust left over from the sanding.
ii. Test the stain you have chosen on a small, inconspicuous area of floor to confirm you are delighted with the colour.
iii. Stain the remainder of the ground and wait until tender.

STEP 3: Growing

I. Using a roller or brush lightly apply a polyurethane finish to the ground and wait for a few hours to dry.
II. To acquire a fantastic finish, leave the ground to dry for approximately 4 to 5 hours and then use another layer of finish and leave to dry completely.

General security information:

A. Always read the label, especially when working with substances.
B. When possible, always test first (see above).
C. Wear protective clothes and keep the room well aired while functioning.

Solid hardwood floors are made from 100% real wood and because of this, solid flooring are stronger and you'll be able to sand, refinish or recoat them several times, giving them a"like new" appearance every moment. That is basically why solid hardwood floors last more than the other choices.
